This is a video about ethnic Khmer Krom elementary school students singing and dancing in Khleang Province (Soc Trang) in Kampuchea Krom (Mekong Delta of south Viet Nam). They are photographed and taped by keen Western tourists. After decades of deprivation, Khmer Krom now become the object of Viet Nam’s booming tourist industry. Anyway, they look happy and tourism will better make Khmer Krom better know to the world.
The loss of land of Cambodian people and the ever-widening gap of social inequality reminds us of the root-causes that plunged Cambodia into civil war in the late 1960s and the subsequent genocide.
